When people ask me for my advice after planning the wedding of my daughter, Leanne, I say "Get Shelly to be there!' That is the best, most important advice that I have for all of you who are getting ready
for a big day. The new acronym in weddings is DYO which stands for Do Your Own. Well that might work up until close to the wedding, but you MUST have Shelly there to handle all the details of the day. No matter how well everything is planned, little details surface and Shelly takes care of them. An example is that our DJ came, looked at his appointed space and said, 'that won't work.' Suddenly we were looking at rearranging the whole room. I went into overdrive, until I suddenly realized that it wasn't my problem.....Shelly was there! She immediately sized up the challenge and took over as I leisurely walked out and joined my friends on the deck.Each time that I looked up, Shelly was scurrying to and fro greeting people, filling water glasses, arranging place cards, making sure everything was perfect. She knew what needed to be done and did it, while being available to the wedding party to fulfill their every need. I had a great time at Leanne's wedding because I was like another guest... I had no responsibility - because Shelly was there! I can't thank her enough for making our day so special and so perfect!
Shelly was also a fountain of good advice and referrals before the wedding day. We often interviewed several vendors but always ended up going with the one that Shelly had recommended. She has her finger on the pulse of the hospitality industry in Centre County and she is ready and willing to share her experiences. She kept in contact with us throughout the planning of our event and was always available as a ready listener as we considered various possibilities. She volunteered to take responsibility for things like picking up flowers, arranging rental connections and providing linens. In addition, Shelly was enthusiastic about all our ideas and worked to make the wedding a reflection of our family.
So the DYO wedding was more like DYOw/S.... Do Your Own with Shelly!
